BQ Otama
Introducing the BQ Otama – A Tadpole Lure That is so fun
For the first time ever, Hiroshi found himself needing to reduce the hooking ratio—because the bass were striking the BQ Otama so aggressively, they were swallowing it deep, all the way to the gills. Using a traditional treble hook was risking injury to the fish.
To solve this, Hiroshi switched to a double hook setup, and our partners of Ichikawa Hooks crafted the perfect version for us. Ichikawa Fishing also introdued this hook and ready to ship. "Kamakiri Double"
To get the most out of the BQ Otama, anglers need to reel in slowly—only setting the hook once they feel the full weight of the fish. If you react too quickly, the lure will slip out of the fish’s mouth. This is not your usual “twitch and strike” lure—it’s something special.
The name BQ Otama carries a deeper meaning:
- “BQ” stands for “Be Quiet”—a reminder to stay calm and reel patiently.
- In Japanese, “BQ” also sounds like “B-grade,” which adds a fun twist, since Hiroshi is known for making only top-tier lures. It’s a playful contradiction that fans of Nishine Lure Works really enjoy.
- “Otama” means tadpole in Japanese—hence the unique shape and swimming action.
